While music is a widely spread amateur practice, its switch to the professional scene requires intensive mediatization. Only mediatized artists can reach large audiences. Mediatization not only creates the market of a musical works, it also builds up the artist’s brand. The rollout of digital technologies has changed the ecosystem of production, mass communication and distribution of music works. This session explores the economic aspects of those changes.
